Professionally
“What do you do?” That’s usually the first thing a person asks when they meet someone new. I’m not always sure what to say. I’ve never applied for a job, don’t have a particular title and use different skills at my companies. I’ve never been able to limit myself to just one thing (for better and worse).
Sunday Pixels, LLC holds brands relating to church websites (ChurchThemes and ChurchHost). My newer company GleeBeeCo was born from a desire to work with tangible products like trading cards and art prints. Before this, my wife and I sold our personality testing company to a Swiss Aktiengesellschaft.
I can relate to what is written in The Life of a Unicorn Developer. I started off as a web designer who was asked to create dynamic features requiring development skills, so I learned. I’ve been working in the world of commercial WordPress products [since the early 2010’s] where “unicorns” are often bred due to the nature of and relationship between themes and plugins.
Personally
Maybe when we meet a new person it would be better to ask, “What are you like?” People are more than their work.
As for me, I grew up in southern California and have lived in Texas for a good while now with my wife and son. I enjoy reading classics, being in nature and basketball. I’m a sinner covered by the blood of Jesus. There is no other way.
I’ve struggled with anxiety all my life but did not realize that’s what is was until I was well into adulthood. Anxiety is not stress. It’s a pervasive, irrational mental burden with physical manifestations. I share this because I wouldn’t have gotten help (medication) if I had not heard that someone I knew had done the same.
Then there’s the kind of stuff nobody shares on Facebook.
This site came about as an experiment in hosting WordPress statically to see if I could achieve a free website.
